Chapters 1-3
Perspective of Jem
n I broke my arm when I was thirteen, I feared that I wouldn't be able to play football, I couldn't care, I just wanted to be able to pass and punt. I was seldom self-conscious, my arm weren't the same size and my thumb was parallel to my thigh. In MayComb I lived with my sister,Scout, my father,Atticus and our cook,Calpurina. Our father Atticus, was satisfactory, he read and played with us. Calpurina has been with me since I was born. Her and Scout don't get along very well. Our mother died when Scout was two, I don't think she missed her, but I did and still do.
The summer that I was about ten and Scout six we played, we went outside as far as we could hear Calpurina. We met Dill, that summer. When I and scout were playing at our yard as every summer day,we heard a noise in our neighbor's house, Miss.Rachel. Scout and I went to the wire fence. When we got there we saw him, a small person, with snow white hair, he wore blue linen shorts, and had blue eyes, he was a eccentric person, his name is Charles Baker Harris, but people call him Dill. He won a beauty contest and won five dollars ! He told us about Dracula and we told him about the Radleys Place. He was fascinated and not irked like we would have thought he would be, he was fascinated by the myths people said like that Boo Radley was a malevolent person. Dill dared me to go and get Radley out of the house, I was perserved and I didn't want to chicken out on a dare. Dill came up with another one in a couple of days, it was to go and touch his house. When I did, Radley noticed and we saw the flicker of the shades.
Summer was over and Dill left and Scout was excited to start school. I and Atticus came to a *compromise* I was going to take Scout to school on the first day. I told Scout to not talk or ask me to play during school. Scout was going to be in first grade. I came and checked with her during recess, she told me she didn't like it, I told her that it was a new way of teaching. She got hit with a ruler six times on her first day. During lunch Scout was beating Walter a Cunningham, Scout was saying he made her start on the wrong foot. I asked him to come for lunch, since he wasn't able to afford food. Atticus and Walter were getting along wonderfully. When Walter came over for lunch, Calpurina and Scout had a argument, Scout was being condescended and making Walter feel less than us. I guess Calpurnia was right. I cant stop thinking about the indigenous Radley and his house, and how he died. But his son is just like him, and I cant wait till next summer until he gets here.
