TKAM # 2

Journal #2
- Chapters 4-7
- Perspective: Scout

After the argument I had with Atticus was over about not going to school anymore, I guess he was right. The next day when I was running home back alone, because I get out thirty minutes before Jem, when I was running through the Radley lot, something shiny caught my eye. I made sure no one was looking and went back to look what it was, two pieces of chewing gum, I immediatly wanted to stuff it in my mouth, but I rememberd where I was. I went to my front porch and when no one was looking I crammed it into my mouth. Jem got mad when he came back from school & saw me chewing on something I found, he then got real mad when I told him where I had found it, he accused me on telling Calpurnia on me. He didnt believe me though, he didnt believe that I had found it on the tree hole in Radley's Lot. On the last day of school though Jem saw it too, something was on the hole, he went over and pulled out a box, when he opened it; he found Indian heads. Jem explained to me they are kind of like magic, they make you have good luck.

Summer was here, that meant Dill was coming. I and Jem decided he will arrive a day later, since in Mississippi they get out of school later. When Dill got here we were excited and one of the first games we played together was where we roll inside a old tire. I was the first one to roll, I rolled into the Radley's Place front steps. This inccident gave Jem the idea of playing a new game " Boo Radley". Atticus told us to stop tormenting Boo. I; Jem and Dill all got a charecter as the summer passed Jem's game becomes hard; soon we were immitating every one in the Radley family ! Atticus catches us playing one day; Jem tells him a lie. Jem & Dill have become really good friends & I feel left out alot of the time. I start spending time with Miss Maudie Atkinson. Miss Maudie Atkinson has a talent for gardening and baking cakes, she was Atticus's brother friend when they were childs. I ask Miss Maudie Atkinson questions about Boo Radley, she says that most of the rumors are false & that he is still alive; she is very quibbiling. Jem & Dill dont tell me stuff anymore, I walked in one day where they were playing and I got them to tell me what they were planning now. Jem and Dill are evasion me now. Jem is just like chameloeon now; he and Dill go everywhere & lie to Atticus. Their plan seemed crazy to me, but Jem accused me of being more like a girly girl, so I decided to particpate on trying to write a note to Boo Radley inviting him to go out for ice cream with us, this note was going to go through his window ! I reall y hope that Atticus's doesn't catch us. Unfortnenetly he did and ordered us to stop turtoring that man. Jim and Dill are unanimous in playing the "Boo Radley" game.

We obey him till Dill's last day in Maycomb. Jem & Dill plan to sneak into the Radley place and look through a broken shutter. I go with them and we go around the house. We look through various windows. We all stay frozen when we see a shadow of a man with a hat on. We run as fast as we could, we heard a shotgun go off. We go through the school yards fence. Jem's pants get caught under the fence, when we got back home he had no pants on, he had to take them off to be able to get out of the fence. When they got back home, they saw a whole lot of adults, they said that Mr.Radley shot a "negro". Jem lied to Atticus again & said that Dill won his pants in a game of strip poker. Later that night Jem & I go out to get his pants back.

  1. I really liked how how you wrote in the character of Scout. I felt like I was reading section from the book. Maybe add a little more of her feelings toward the shotgun going off.
    It's really good.
