Enriquez Journey
Page:73 3rd paragraph.
Diaolouge:Narrator

Quote #1
"Enrique has defied La Arrocera before. On his last attempt,he lay flat on top of a hopper. It was night. Migra agents' flashlight beams danced over his car several times. Enrique held his breath. The train pushed forward.

Significance:
I picked this quote from the book because it shows how his journey was coming to America. Notice it says "on his last attempt". It shows how Enrique uses his knowledge from the last time he trys to come to the U.S. That is a good habit that many immigrants learn to use. Enrique travels on the trains on and off. Enrique gets beaten many times. Some of the damages are permanently. In the book it doesn't say very much if he misses his family or not. He makes some friends in the journey. The immigrants traveling on the train tell each others what to do and what not to do. Enrique knows that it's dangerous sleeping with all the other immigrants so he sleeps by himself usually behind a bush. Enrique has become very wise, in the traveling of trains. But it has been a hard passage as well.

Personal Connection:
I will connect to this because Enrique has tried six different times to enter the U.S. He has also been deported six times. That doesn't stop Enrique to keep trying. When I take my test i don't stop, i keep trying to figure out what I do wrong and I learn from my mistakes. I listen and ask people for help and if there is an easier way to understand, I am not afraid to ask people. Neither is Enrique he asks everyone he see;s if they can help him, and that's how he survives they give him food and clothes to stay warm. I think that's is my connection to this quote.

Question:
If you were to try to cross the border, but you got caught six times, and you know what it feels like to be alone and afraid, will you try again ?

Quote #2:
Page:123 paragraph:3
Dialogue:Narrator
As the trains starts, Enrique shares his cheese, soda, and rolls with the two other boys, also headed for the United States. One is thirteen. The other is seventeen. Silently, Enrique thanks the food throwers again for the bread.

Significance:
Even though Enrique is lonely and hungry. He still shares what he has. He met two other boys also in the look out for their mothers one is thirteen and the other is seventeen. He asked for food and he got it and shared it with the boys who are also hungry. The food throwers that are mostly located in Veracruz give immigrants food and clothes. They aren't like the people in Oaxaca who dislike immigrants. When he gets to Mexico is a bit worst than people in Oaxaca, the people in Mexico are truly afraid of immigrants because of what happened to a Mexican that helped three immigrants. They say that they don't trust them. Fortunately a Mexican gives Enrique a job for 80 pesos a day. He earns 120 pesos and hails a combi and takes a bus to Matehuala. Matehuala is on a principal route for truckers headed to the United States. He asks truckers to take him and that he has no money, one of the truckers agrees.

Personal Connection:
I don't have a connection to this quote, but I think it's thoughtful how Enrique gives food to the boys. They don't talk a lot about the boys but Enrique shares the little stuff he has with them. I think that I will share with people as well. When we are in lunch and one of my peers doesn't have lunch, we all give them something and we share. We all put food in the middle and we eat. Enrique shares his food and his blanket with them. The nights are very chilly now. I think Enrique mostly gives them food, because all three of them are in search of their mom's.

Question:
If you had food but others looked at you, would you give them some even if you didn't get as much as you would ? & why ?
